My friend Barb who is all knowledgeable about things computer(ish) told me about Facebook. Maybe you've heard about it, maybe you haven't. I looked at it awhile ago and thought, ah, I can live without it.
Then...I looked at it again this week and now I'm hooked. It's more fun than blogging because you don't have to write stuff all the time to keep your readers coming back. You just look up people you know and it's just one big game of 6 Degrees of Separation.
So check it out. I'm there. So's Barb. We're fun people. Come join us.
Stay tuned, tomorrow night is the big birthday celebration for us...Barb, Chris and little ole me. Can you say Mexican food? Can you hear the tinkling of the margarita glasses now? Oh ya people, that's what I'm talkin' about.
Then sings my soul.......My Saviour God to Thee, How Great Thou Art, how great Thou Art!

A Point of View
A point of view... Barbara Walters of Television's 20/20 did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict.. She noted that women customarily walked 5 paces behind their husbands.
She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. From Miss Walter's vantage point, despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem to walk even further back behind their husbands and are happy to maintain the old custom.
Miss Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, "Why do you now seem happy with the old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?"
The woman looked Miss Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation,
said, "Land Mines."

If We'd Only Brought the Camera....
This weekend Chris and I learned a lot about trees. In particular, how they fall, where they land and most funnest of all, how to cut them up with a chainsaw.
We went up to the cottage on Thursday night after work......lots of yawning as we pulled into our driveway just before midnight.
Friday we puttered around marvelling at our new kitchen that's now installed. It's beautiful and seems so much brighter and bigger! Went to our fave pub for lunch and to the dump, just for fun. Actually we dropped off our 2 loveseats only to see them being picked up even before we left "the mall" as it's called around town.
Saturday morning Chris's parents arrived with chainsaw in hand and egg sandwiches. hmm...do we eat now? Ha! Too much logging to do first!
Because of the pine beetle a lot of trees have to come down which is very sad. Good thing Slim Jim knows how to work a chainsaw 'cuz he took down a whole lot of them. We have a bunch of old sheds that need to come down and we kept telling him, "Don't worry about the sheds if you hit one, needs to come down anyways" Did he listen? Nooo....missed every one of them. Missed the cottage, missed the hydro lines, daggum missed all of them, just put them all on the ground where we sawed the branches off and piled up the logs. We're such good loggers.
Anyways...wish I had brought the camera. Just to see the big girls run like the dickens when the trees started coming down. Picture it for yourself. Too funny.
But we're thankful for the great weather as in all sunshine and no wind, nobody got hurt and no sheds were harmed in the exercise. Hopefully next time we can take out at least one of them.

An Easter Prayer

Lord,
Thank You for the gift of HOPE
You gave us on Easter morning.
Because of You we know
That no problem is too difficult
And even death does not have power over us
Thank You for the gift of JOY
You gave us when You were resurrected.
Because of You we know
That no matter how challenging life may be,
In the end we will rejoice again.
Thank You for the gift of LOVE
You gave us when You laid down Your life
Because of You we know
That there is no sin too great to separate us
And we are incredibly valuable to You.
Thank You for the gift of LIFE
You gave us when You left the tomb
Because of Easter we know
This world is just the beginning
And we will spend forever in heaven with You.
We celebrate You JESUS
With hearts full of praise and gratitude
For who You are and all You’ve done for us!
Amen!

The Difference Between Men and Women
*stolen* from Valerie's blog...too good not to share!
Let’s say a guy named Roger is attracted to a woman named Elaine. He asks her out to a movie. She accepts and they have a pretty good time.
A few nights later he asks her out to dinner, and again they enjoy themselves. They continue to see each other regularly, and after a while neither one of them is seeing anybody else.
One evening when they’re driving home, a thought occurs to Elaine, and, without really thinking, she says it aloud, "Do you realize that, as of tonight, we’ve been seeing each other for exactly six months?"
Silence. To Elaine, it seems like a very loud silence. She thinks to herself, Geez, I wonder if it bothers him that I said that. Maybe he’s been feeling confined by our relationship; maybe he thinks I’m trying to push him into some kind of obligation that he doesn’t want; or isn’t sure of.
And Roger is thinking, Gosh. Six months.
And Elaine is thinking, But, hey, I’m not so sure I want this kind of relationship, either. Sometimes I wish I had a little more space, so I’d have time to think about whether I really want us to keep going the way we are, moving steadily toward… I mean, where are we going? Are we just going to keep seeing each other at this level of intimacy? Are we heading toward marriage? Toward children? Toward a lifetime together? Am I ready for that level of commitment? Do I really even know this person?
And Roger is thinking:…so that means it was…let’s see…February when we started going out, which was right after I had the car at the dealer’s, which means…lemme check the odometer…Whoa? I am way overdue for an oil change here.
And Elaine is thinking: He’s upset. I can see it on his face. Maybe I’m reading this completely wrong. Maybe he wants more from our relationship, more intimacy, more commitment; maybe he has sensed – even before I sensed it – that I was feeling some reservations. Yes, I bet that’s it. That’s why he’s so reluctant to say anything about his own feelings. He’s afraid of being rejected.
And Roger is thinking: And I’m gonna have them look at the transmission again. I don’t care what those morons say, it’s still not shifting right. And they better not try to blame it on the cold weather this time. What cold weather? It’s 87 degrees out, and this thing is shifting like a garbage truck, and I paid those incompetent thieves $600.
And Elaine is thinking: He’s angry. And I don’t blame him. I’d be angry, too. I feel so guilty, putting him through this, but I can’t help the way I feel. I’m just not sure.
And Roger is thinking: They’ll probably say it’s only a 90- day warranty. That’s exactly what they’re gonna say, the scumballs.
And Elaine is thinking: maybe I’m just too idealistic, waiting for a knight to come riding up on his white horse, when I’m sitting right next to a perfectly good person, a person I enjoy being with, a person I truly do care about, a person who seems to truly care about me. A person who is in pain because of my self-centered, schoolgirl romantic fantasy.
And Roger is thinking: Warranty? They want a warranty? I’ll give them a warranty. I’ll take their warranty and stick it right up their….
"Roger," Elaine says aloud.
"What?" says Roger, startled.
"Please don’t torture yourself like this," she says, her eyes beginning to brim with tears. "Maybe I should never have…Oh, I feel so…" She breaks down, sobbing.
"What?" says Roger.
"I’m such a fool," Elaine sobs. "I mean, I know there’s no knight. I really know that. It’s silly. There’s no knight, and there’s no horse."
"There’s no horse?" says Roger.
"You think I’m a fool, don’t you?" Elaine says.
"No!" says Roger, glad to finally know the correct answer.
"It’s just that…It’s that I…I need some time," Elaine says.
There's a pause while Roger, thinking as fast as he can, tries to come up with a safe response. Finally he comes up with one that he thinks might work. "Yes," he says.
Elaine, deeply moved, touches his hand. "Oh, Roger, do you really feel that way?" she says.
"What way?" says Roger.
"That way about time," says Elaine.
"Oh," says Roger. "Yes."
Elaine turns to face him and gazes deeply into his eyes, causing him to become very nervous about what she might say next, especially if it involves a horse. At last she speaks. "Thank you, Roger," she says.
"Thank you," says Roger.
Then he takes her home, and she lies on her bed, a conflicted, tortured soul, and weeps until dawn, whereas when Roger gets back to his place, he opens a bag of Doritos, turns on the TV, and immediately becomes deeply involved in a rerun of a tennis match between two Czechoslovakians he never heard of.
A tiny voice in the far recesses of his mind tells him that something major was going on back there in the car, but he is pretty sure there is no way he would ever understand what, and so he figures it’s better if he doesn’t think about it.
The next day Elaine will call her closest friend, or perhaps two of them, and they will talk about this situation for six straight hours. In painstaking detail, they will analyze everything she said and everything he said, going over it time and time again, exploring every word, expression, and gesture for nuances of meaning, considering every possible ramification. They will continue to discuss this subject, off and on, for weeks, maybe months, never reaching any definite conclusions, but never getting bored with it either.
Meanwhile, Roger, while playing racquetball one day with a mutual friend of his and Elaine’s, will pause just before serving, frown, and say, "Norm, did Elaine ever own a horse?"

Quit Yer Bellyachin'
http://www.dailygood.org/view.php?qid=2889
Recently I read of a church who have come up with a great idea, get people to quit complaining!
So often we get caught up with whining about stuff...well people it's time to stop. Count your blessings, name them one by one!
Whining wears me out. It should be banned. We are so blessed to live in a beautiful country with freedom to be who we are, to love unashamedly, to enjoy the beauty of God's creation. So much to be thankful for.

Life
Life just gets so busy sometimes. I have a hard time keeping up and every once in awhile I just shut down. Ever get that feeling?
I worked today driving people to and from various churches. Easy day.
Tomorrow is another day full of challenges. After work I'm heading to Abby to pick up my mom and go to a Southern Gospel concert. Should be a good time.
Chris's folks are still here, poor Benson is so stressed. He doesn't like having strangers around the house. It'll take us all a few days to de-stress!
I'm planning a get-away for my mom and I in April so that should be fun. My mom is easy to travel with, lots of fun to be around and well, she's my mom.
Here's to a good week.

A-Z
I was reading someone else's blog (something I do a lot) and saw him post an A-Z of how he was feeling that day, where his life was at, etc. so I thought why not? My blog isn't terribly exciting at the best of times.
At times I feel I have something to say but don't know how to express it and other times I think well I really only have a couple of people who read it anyways, what's the point?
Today was an absolutely blah day. I woke up feeling sick to my stomach, overwhelmed at the day ahead, dreading the visit of Chris's parents, fed up with the world, tired beyond words and overall feeling lousy. After a bit of stomach upset and a good boohoo, I am feeling better.
So...in an effort to restart the day here's my A - Z
A. Amazing Race, love the show
B. Bad Betty, also known as my mom, makes me smile
C. Chris, my love, my heart
D. Dog named Maggie, sweetheart
E. Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before
F. Flannigen, my beloved whippet, remembered with love
G. God, the Almighty
H. Handy Dart, good employer
I. Image Media, great place to work in the 90's
J. John, my brother, home with Jesus
K. Knowledge Network
L. Love, so amazing
M. Macadamia nuts in Hawaii
N. No Ka Oi, still thinking Hawaii
O. Over the hill,
P. Paul, step-father, kind loving man
Q. Queer as Folk
R. Ralph Malph, big brother
S. Survivor, my other fave show
T. Tommy Hilfiger, fave store
U. Unto thee oh Lord do I put my trust
V. Starts my last name
W. Where Could I Go but to the Lord
X. X-rays show nothing of the pain
Y. You are nuts
Z. Zion, oh Zion
Peace out cub scout.............hope the weekend is survived by all.

Been to the Movies
Friday night we went to see Premonition with Sandra Bullock. A good story with a lot of suspense and at the end of the movie you're still left wondering if it all will make sense in the end.
Last night we rented Sherrybaby, a realistic movie about a woman being released from prison and trying to rebuild her life. When all you've known is drugs and prostitution it's hard to start over not relying on what you know best.
Lots of errands and stuff to do around the house. Next weekend Chris's parents are arriving so the whirlwind blitz of cleaning will begin Thursday evening. Any volunteers? haha.
It seems we need a weekend to recuperate from the weekend around here.

Had a great time on the Sunshine Coast looking at real estate and meeting a lot of really nice people. The ferry rides were wonderful, what a gorgeous province we live in. I hope I never take it for granted. We stayed in a very pleasant Guesthouse overlooking the ocean. Everything in Powell River over looks the ocean!
Real estate isn't cheap there either so I'm not sure what my friend will end up doing but it was fun to get away and do something completely out of the ordinary.
Danae is coming over later and spending the night....she has way more of a social life than I do so it'll be nice to catch up with her. I used to work with her doing life skills training 2 days a week in my former life. She's by far the sweetest person I ever worked with and always a pleasure to have around.
Peace out. Have a great weekend!

Off and Running
Tomorrow morning bright and early (Yawn) I'm going to Powell River with Christine, the mother of Moses. Moses has parked himself on our couch to be waited on paw and paw by his Auntie Chris who spoils him rotten. He has ganged up with Maggie against "those cats". He's not impressed with our additions to the family.
Should be fun...staying in a guesthouse/hostel and having a look around.
Peace out cub scout.
Later skater.
and my favorite from working in a group home...
Hate to tell ya,
I can smell ya!

Bits and Pieces
Last week flew by...........whoosh! It was gone. On Thursday night I went downtown to meet Chris after work. She had a 7:10 pm appt so we didn't quite have enough time to have dinner before so we had a little snack. After the appt. we weren't too hungry yet so we walked around looking through the stores and people watching. Finally we decided to go get some dinner as by this time it was 8:30.
Question was where? We had some coupons from "The BOOK" so we wanted to try one of those places. We picked one and headed upstairs.
First of all our server introduced himself. Nothing special about that, they all seem to do that these days. But then he asked us our names so "we could get to know each other a little better". hmmmm
Anyways, because we weren't starving and it was getting later in the evening we ordered appy's and a glass of wine. Then Chris gets the bright idea of having a piece of chocolate cake. Sounds good to me, I tell Oscar, "bring us 2 forks, if it's big enough to share" He assures us it is.
The cake arrived. We thought it would be a slice but it turned out to be a whole cake! We were stunned to say the least, turns out it's their promo. And if it's your birthday you don't even pay for it! Now we know where to take Barb!
The cake was big enough for us both to have gigantic pieces and share the rest with our Abby friends. I took a photo but can't upload on this 'puter so close your eyes and pictures a yummy chocolate cake with dark choco swirls running down the top.
We went to a Brian Doerksen concert on Friday night...very good. Saw Barb before that and had dinner with her...good times as always.
Last night I went to see Pursuit of Happyness....Will Smith does a LOT of running, but other than that, good movie. Saw my friend Jen and little Miss Teriyaki.
Off to work today because I'm taking some days off this week.
Have a good week everybody. Peace out.
