This has been a challenging week in the life of my family. I'm not sure how or why things happened the way they did.

I know that God is in control and "that all things work together for good to those that love Him" but in the meantime there is stuff to figure out and contemplate.

I'm fortunate to have a supportive partner to stand beside me and put things in perspective.

It isn't easy getting old. Not for the parents and not for the kids.

This post probably doesn't make a lot of sense, I guess I just need to vent.

We're off to the cottage bright and early tomorrow.........next week is a new week.

Compliments Anyone?

After I pulled into the bus garage today my boss came out to greet me and said, "I need to tell you something. Wait for me upstairs."

My heart was pounding, I was reviewing my day, did I tick anybody off? did I hit somebody's car and not know? what did I do wrong? All these negative thoughts were racing through my head.

I went upstairs and waited for her, only to have her walk into her office and say, "oh here it is, the piece of paper I'm looking for".

"A lady you picked up last week called me to compliment you and tell what a pleasure it was to have a ride home with you last week." Whew!

Certainly made my day. I think it's important to commend people when they do a good job, especially in customer service.
Still feeling a little stiff and sore but going back to work this morning. I'm blessed to have a job that I love. So often I hear people complaining about their jobs and how little satisfaction they get. I don't feel that way but I have had jobs I didn't like. Haven't we all?

I remember working for a gentleman in his home office and every morning I'd pull into the driveway and think 'only another 7.5 hours and I'm going home'. How's that for not feeling fulfilled?

But for now the sun is shining, I had a wonderful birthday celebration, actually more than one, I'm very blessed.

Another Paul Story...

After the lecture about keeping our voices down in the restaurant my mother says..."now I don't want Paul to have to pay for all of your lunches so how about if we all give Ralph our lunch money and when the bill comes Ralph can pay for it". Yes, we were all adults when she said this.

So after lunch and all the niceties were over, we had all behaved well, nobody threw anything at anybody, no food was flung, no burps were made, no punches were thrown...the bill came. Paul pulls out his wallet and says. "how about if I treat you all"..

My mother gasped and glared at Ralph who was a little slower on the wallet draw. Ralph quickly recovered and said "No, Paul I'll get it". Paul insisted and after bantering back and forth finally said. "well how about if we go Dutch?"

Ralph looked around at all the Dutchies sitting at the table and said "How much more Dutch can you go?"

My dad always told me...you ain't much if you ain't dutch. Welcome to the Dutchies Paul!

After the Birthday Recap

I had a great Birthday yesterday and was spoiled...just the way a birthday should be!

Chris and I enjoyed a nice lunch out with the seniors...aka Paul and Bad Betty. They paid the bill so we didn't have to stay and wash the dishes. Do they really do that anywhere? My parents have said that to me my whole life. Did they just make that up? They wouldn't lie to me would they? huh?

We went to see "Georgia Rule" last night. Great movie. Really enjoyed it although it wasn't all comedy, had a very serious edge to it. Worth the view.

Tonight we're going to see some friends we haven't seen in a few years. They called out of the blue and invited us over. Looking forward to re-connecting.

Have a great day everyone!

It's My Birthday!!!

Even at this age (which is very, very, very old) I still get excited when it's my birthday and today's the day!!!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood and I've already been surprised this morning by the beautiful gift of a white gold/yellow gold anklet! It's fabulous and so is the person who gave it to me. I'm so spoiled.

We're heading out for lunch with P & BB, a combo birthday/Mother's Day lunch in a nice restaurant with white table cloths and orders "not to spill anything" by the Grand Matriarch, aka Bad Betty.

Which reminds me of a story....

Years ago (1998) my mom was falling in love (at the age of 72) with a certain gentleman named Paul. A fine man, well mannered, well groomed, and very well dressed with a big shiny car.

The Mother called her 3 children and announced that her and Paul would be getting married and she wanted Paul to meet the 3 of us (just to see what he was getting into). The 3 of us showed up on time to her apartment where we were given instructions.

By this time we were all in our 40's/50's and we were lined up on the couch like we were 6 and a finger pointed in our face, just like the old days! "You kids be nice to Paul, be polite and keep your voices down in the restaurant". Sheesh Mom!

Anyways, here we are in 2007, P & BB have been married for 8 years and all is well in my little world.

And it's my birthday!

You Know You're Canadian When...

So, feeling a little stiff and sore we went off to the clinic today and told the nice little doc about our aches and pains, reported the accident to the appropriate people and thought I'd tell a funny story that happened to Chris at work.

Chris came home and said "Boy you know you're Canadian when your colleague spells on the phone to someone 'T as in TIM BITS'!" How funny is that! So we continued the conversation....A as in Apple Fritters, Blueberry Fritters, Coffee...too funny. It made me laugh.

Bang!

Tonight when Chris came home from work I said, "I feel like White Spot for dinner." To which she replied, "I feel like White Rock." Nobody has to twist my arm to go to the seaside to eat. Warm sunny evening, sitting outside at an outdoor cafe, yup, you got it, no complaints from me.

So off we went with visions of fish and chips dancing in our heads...right. Up to the corner of Hwy 10 and King George Hwy. I stopped at the light. Proceeded slowly looking to my left for traffic when all of a sudden, BAM! Looked in my rear view mirror but couldn't see anything but the trunk of my car! Yikes!

Anyways, we're fine. Just shaken up and have sore necks. The lady who hit me was very apologetic and said she'd never had an accident in over 40 years of driving but she was in a rush.

Tomorrow I'll call ICBC and see the Dr. and all of that stuff. For now, muscle relaxers and a good night's sleep is what I'm hoping for.

It's Been One of Those Days....

I went into the gas station today and asked for five dollars worth of gas.....
The clerk farted and gave me a receipt.

Big Girls Go Country!

Friday was Chris's birthday so I treated her to a Country Concert. Not your ordinary big name star, over-priced tickets but a real live music night put on by local talent. Actually it was a concert put on by some of my friends in a day program and they're good.

This group lip syncs all the big numbers and acts and dances, the whole works. Everyone gets a part. This concert was all country numbers and was set in a bar. You gotta love it. Lots of fun for those performing and a sell-out crowd of spectators.

Big Girls Go Techno Crazy

Once again I had a computer crash so that one has now gone off to a better place in computer land and yesterday I came home with.......a brand new one! Yeah!

Wow, what a techno weekend! First Chris came home with a 32" TV, hooked it up and went, nah, not big enough! So the next day that TV went back to the store and this time a really big one came home. It's a 40" Sony and it's beautiful!

We watched a movie one it last night and it was fabulous.

And now I have a brand new Pentium 4! Yippee! It's all good in the hood!

Did I Tell You???

Chris is getting a new TV for her birthday! Yeah, no more buzzing in the middle of great programs where we fight to see who has to get up and unplug the TV and plug it in again to stop the horrendous buzzing!

Yippee skippee!!!

And So the Birthday Celebrations Begin

Tonight after work Chris and I met up with our crazy friend Barb who is 1) crazy 'cuz she's friends with me (us) and 2) all 3 of us have birthdays in the same week.

We went for dinner to Pepitas in Langley and if you like Mexican food and Margaritas (did somebody say margaritas?) go there! It's great food and even better Margaritas especially on Wednesdays!

We had a wonderful dinner and a stimulating conversation........no really, we did. Here's proof.

Facebook

My friend Barb who is all knowledgeable about things computer(ish) told me about Facebook. Maybe you've heard about it, maybe you haven't. I looked at it awhile ago and thought, ah, I can live without it.

Then...I looked at it again this week and now I'm hooked. It's more fun than blogging because you don't have to write stuff all the time to keep your readers coming back. You just look up people you know and it's just one big game of 6 Degrees of Separation.

So check it out. I'm there. So's Barb. We're fun people. Come join us.

Stay tuned, tomorrow night is the big birthday celebration for us...Barb, Chris and little ole me. Can you say Mexican food? Can you hear the tinkling of the margarita glasses now? Oh ya people, that's what I'm talkin' about.
